It takes as long as a half hour for your stomach to let your brain know that you are full which leads many of us to overeat even when we’ve had more than enough food. We can eat more filling and fiber-rich foods to feel full faster but another great trick is to sprinkle in more spices and herbs with powerful weight loss properties.

Don’t discount the value in a teaspoon of spice on your meal, many spices can be as fiber-rich as regular whole foods and often add a good metabolism boost as well.

Psyllium: This fiber-rich compound is a main ingredient in pharmaceuticals like Metamucil but can also be found in cereals, frozen products, and can be added to baked goods. Psyllium is also good for lowering your cholesterol and improving bowel health.

Cayenne Pepper: Researchers at Purdue have found that just a half teaspoon of cayenne pepper can make you feel full longer and consume less calories at your next meal. Cayenne pepper also speeds up your metabolism which helps you burn more calories.

Cinnamon: This tasty spice helps you produce less insulin after your meal which prevents blood sugar spikes and cravings. Just three grams of cinnamon can help you feel full longer and it can be added to meals as well as coffee and snacks.

Black Pepper: According to researchers at the University of Oklahoma, your basic black pepper can help you burn fat faster and improve digestion. Researchers say black pepper alone can burn as many calories as a 20 minute walk.

Spices and herbs like oregano, rosemary, turmeric, cumin, and ginger also help you boost your metabolism and decrease blood sugar spikes.
