It’s a whole new year, and a whole new chance to wipe slates clean, set new goals, and make plans to get even closer to your best self. Among the most common resolutions: You guessed it–shedding pounds. Arm yourself with these stash-in-pocket secret weapons to lose excess weight and feel great.

LoseIt!Loseit2

Since its 2008 iTunes launch, LoseIt has been downloaded five million-plus times, making it as wildly popular as it is highly rated. On it, set goals, then track diet and exercise  (pssst, fitness earns you calories). It suggests optimal calorie intakes and makes refreshingly clear the indisputable link between exercise and healthy eating required in a powerful two-pronged approach to weight-loss (hallelujah—put down that “exercise-optional” diet book right now!) According to The New York Times, when researchers at St. Joseph Healthcare Diabetes Institute of Behavioral Medicine, in Maine, tested LoseIt with 17 patients, nearly all lost weight and lowered blood sugar. One participant lowered insulin intake by 20 percent within three months. Success!
